Continuing with an ongoing series dedicated to Globalization, Transcubiculismo conceptually
explores the transformation of the new corporate worker into an ubiquitous entity. This efficient
and mediatic being is both enclosed by the limits of the cubicle or office space while "liberated"
through the orifice to the virtual world represented by the computer monitor.
Transcubiculismo is an open critique as well as a personal fiction. I take on different virtual roles
as characters that typify the corporate ladder : the assistant, the director, the boss and the
human resource lady. All these performances are composites that illustrate the life of the new
corporate being from an idiosyncratic perspective. All characters exist within the cubicle space,
always "protected" by the carcass represented by the cubicle, always safe and sound from an ever
more dangerous and uncertain world.
The realities of today's world directly affect the already alienated corporate worker widening the
breach between the globalized and non-globalized worlds. The corporate worker lives in a sort of
ghetto of it's own creation and its more and more alienated from the harsh realities of the outside
world.
Technically, Transcubiculismo consists of a large projection operated by a customized interface
and a computer hidden under a white plastic pedestal. The interface or mini-keypad controls the
actions of the projected characters and activates the multiple layers that conform this interactive
piece.
Used programs : Photoshop 7.0, Illustrator 9.0, Peak, IMovie and Macromedia Director 8.0. with Lingo Programming.
Other elements used: A mini-keypad designed and programmed in order to serve as interface
between the content of the program and the users.
